Last term in Maths, we looked at measurement. We look at mass, capacity and length. We also looked at time and perimeter. We really enjoyed looking at this, especially perimeter. We created our own space for Noah’s ark, and we were able to create a little cabin on the ark for each individual animal. The children had to measure the animal and then ensure that there was enough room for them to move. We added all sides to find the perimeter and wrote this underneath our cabins.
This term, we are looking at data handling, fractions and properties of shapes. The first week of term, we have looked at how to read pictograms, how to collect data using a tally, and how to put that into our own pictogram. We really enjoyed creating our tally and putting it into a pictogram outside using chalk. We did this to ensure we understood what the features were before we did this independently. All children really enjoyed working together with their math’s partner. During year 3, we have focused on working together as a team.
